I dare you to create something less than perfect
I dare you to create something less than perfect.
And then I dare you to share it with the world.
(okay, you don’t need to share it with the world, maybe just the people in your world)

(do you have any idea how long it took to find a less than perfect image of food? what happened to home made cakes that are half burnt and smothered in icing to cover it up? 😂 )
There are always things we could spend a little more time on but we don’t because we’re lazy.
And then there are things we do spend a little more time on because we are striving for excellence. And this might come at a cost to our health: whether we sacrifice sleep, free time with loved ones, or even our physical exercise.
I dare you to trust that the work you put in is good enough.
I dare you to overcome your perfectionist tendencies.
Start small. Start on purpose. Send something to someone you trust, knowing that the thing you send is less than perfect. It could be a drawing, a note, a draft or rough cut of something you have created.
There’s always room for improvement and this is a freeing thought. Nothing has to be perfect. Nothing can be perfect.
So enjoy the process of creating something less than perfect.
Takeaways
I’ve been commissioned to create a series of bridge building missions for 5 - 8 year olds - although I strongly encourage big kids to get involved too!
The missions take place over half term (26th - 30th October). Spoiler: I show you how to make an ancient bridge out of toilet roll...Sign up here.
I’m proud of this project because:
a) it’s the first time I’ve received actual funding to make a thing (applications are a skillset that must be nurtured!)
and b) I fully went into the project with a playful mindset. I wanted to try something outside of my usual art form and I’m proud to have created something which is joyous and imperfect)
🥬 🥬 I can’t stop singing Lettuce ⬇️ seriously, it’s my response to most questions nowadays (i’m thinkin’ bout lettuce, thinkin’ bout lettuce….)
